New Zealand today - 16 March, 2011

The Unemployment rate has now risen to 6.8% as at February 4, 2011. Because of the Earthquake in Christchurch, growth is now forecast to be low for the rest of 2011 and is expected to grow to 6% in 2012 with the rebuild of Christchurch and the OCR rate is now 2.5%.

With the OCR rate at a historic low, banks are now offering the best lending rates ever seen in New Zealand. It is now a very good time to buy a house in NZ as the market has started to correct itself from its high in July 2007 and many economists think the market will start to lift again, so with low interests rates, the lift should be expected.

With the Christchurch Earthquakes in both September and now on February 22, there is expected to be a building boom starting at the end of 2011 and will continue for a few years so there will be a huge shortage for a number of skilled workers to fill these positions.

There is still the usual shortage of other employment vacancies such as in the IT industry, Medical and Engineering professions so there is still alot of opportunities for new migrants to come and successfully settle in New Zealand.

And best of all, you can still be part of the Kiwi dream.
